Peter Straughan (born 1968) is a British playwright, screenwriter and author, based in the north-east of England. He was writer-in-residence at Newcastle's Live Theatre Company. Whilst there, Live staged his plays, Bones and Noir. Both of these plays have displayed Straughan's talent for writing dark, twisted and witty stories.
The screenplay was written by Bridget O'Connor and Peter Straughan, based on John le Carré's 1974 novel of the same name. The film stars an ensemble cast including Gary Oldman as George Smiley , with Colin Firth , Tom Hardy , John Hurt , Toby Jones , Mark Strong , Benedict Cumberbatch , Ciarán Hinds , David Dencik and Kathy Burke .
Biography. Playwright and screenwriter Peter Straughan was born in 1968 and grew up in Gateshead in the north-east of England. He worked as a professional musician and actor and studied English at Newcastle University. He won the 1997 Northern Arts Writer's Award and his play A Rhyme for Orange won the 1997 North East People's Play Award.
