ストーリー. 1936年 、 プリンストン大学 で教鞭を執る高名な 考古学者 インディアナ・ジョーンズ 教授（インディ）は、愛用のハットと鞭を手にして秘境や遺跡を探検する冒険家であり、世界中の宝物を探して発見するという凄腕の トレジャーハンター でもあった。 南アメリカの森からホヴィト族の追跡を感じながらチャチャポヤンの遺跡へ向かうところから始まる。 トラップを熟知し、それらをくぐりぬけ、 ゴールデンアイドル （ 英語版 ） を手に入れるが、遺跡を出るとインディのライバルである フランス人 の考古学者 ルネ・ベロック が待ち構えており、彼によりゴールデンアイドルを奪われ、更にホヴィト族から追跡されるも、なんとか水上機で逃げ出す。
