Zaanstad (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzaːnstɑt] ⓘ) is a Dutch municipality in the province of North Holland, situated northwest of Amsterdam. Its main city is Zaandam. It is part of the conurbation and metropolitan area of Amsterdam. It had a population of 156,901 in 2021.

Het is op basis van inwoneraantal de 17e gemeente van Nederland. Op 1 januari 2024 had de gemeente Zaanstad 161.429 inwoners (bron: CBS).
It is the main city of the municipality of Zaanstad and received city rights in 1811. It is located on the river Zaan, just north of Amsterdam. The statistical district Zaandam, which encompasses both the city and the surrounding countryside, has about 76,804 residents.
