In 1978, she starred in the comedy film Harper Valley PTA, followed by a television series of the same name in 1981. She played opposite Hagman on several occasions, including in five episodes of the final season of Dallas and the play Love Letters .

The series went on to flesh out the story in the song, as it told of the adventures of Stella Johnson (Barbara Eden), a widowed single mother to teenager Dee (Jenn Thompson), who lived in the fictional town of Harper Valley, Ohio.
