Bruce Beresford (/ ˈ b ɛr ɪ s f ər d /; born 16 August 1940 [citation needed]) is an Australian film director and screenwriter. He has made more than 30 feature films over a 50-year career, both locally and internationally in the United States.

Beresford began making short films as a student at the University of Sydney, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1964.
