Alfred Day Hershey (Owosso, 4 dicembre 1908 – Syosset, 22 maggio 1997) è stato un genetista statunitense, premio Nobel per la medicina nel 1969, insieme a Salvador Luria e Max Delbrück, per la scoperta della replicazione dei virus e della loro struttura genica.

The prize was given for research done on bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria). Hershey earned a doctorate in chemistry from Michigan State College.

Alfred Day Hershey was born on December 4, 1908, in Owosso, Michigan. He attended Michigan State College, where he earned his B.S. in 1930 and his Ph.D. in bacteriology in 1934. His doctoral dissertation examined the chemical makeup of Brucella , the bacterium responsible for brucellosis.
