Frans van Schooten Jr. also rendered as Franciscus van Schooten (15 May 1615, Leiden – 29 May 1660, Leiden) was a Dutch mathematician who is most known for popularizing the analytic geometry of René Descartes.

Frans van Schooten jr. werd rond 1615 geboren in Leiden. In 1631 ging hij studeren aan de universiteit van Leiden, waar hij onder andere les kreeg van zijn vader, die wiskundige was. Toen zijn vader ziek werd in 1635 viel Van Schooten jr. voor hem in: hij gaf les op de Leidse ingenieursschool.
Frans van Schooten jr. (1615-1660) was one of the most influential Dutch mathematicians of the seventeenth century. He is best known for his two Latin editions (1649, 1659-61) of the Géométrie (1637) of Descartes, which originally appeared in French as an appendix to the Discours de la Methode.
