Composer and legendary conductor, Isham Jones was born in Coalton, Ohio on January 31, 1894. Growing up in Saginaw, Michigan, Jones received private music instruction for the saxophone and piano.
Isham Jones became a prolific songwriter but not until his orchestra was already established as one of the most popular dance bands of the ‘20s and early ‘30s. Although his band sometimes played music in the “jazz” style, it was generally known for its “sweet” music. Jones hired the best musicians.

Isham Jones was a leader and broke up many bands in the 1920s and ’30s. But his greatest legacy was as a songwriter. He wrote “It Had to Be You,” On the Alamo,” I’ll See You In My Dreams,” “The Love I Love Belongs to Someone Else,” and “There Is No Greater Love.”
