Producer Jack Douglas originally suggested that Lennon use Cheap Trick as the backing band to play on the song. A version was recorded on 12 August 1980 with Cheap Trick's guitarist Rick Nielsen and drummer Bun E. Carlos backing Lennon.

8 dic 2015 · In 1998, the Cheap Trick recording of “I’m Losing You” was included on the John Lennon Anthology box set. The performance is certainly heavier than the version of the song on Double Fantasy, an approach that well suits the song’s edgy qualities.
