海軍経理学校 時代の神山. 旧制麻布中学校 卒業後、 1945年 4月10日 （ 火曜日 ）海軍経理学校第38期に入学 [4] 、戦後 山王ホテル 勤務、 進駐軍 の 通訳 などを経て、 1952年 に 文学座 に演出部研究生として入座 [3] 。 後に俳優に転じる。 1956年 、文野と結婚。 1963年 、 芥川比呂志 、 小池朝雄 、 高木均 、 仲谷昇 、 岸田今日子 らとともに同座を脱退し、劇作家・ 福田恆存 を代表とする 現代演劇協会 の設立に参加 [3] 、 劇団雲 を結成する。 『 夏の夜の夢 』『 リア王 』『 コリオレイナス 』『 テムペスト 』などの シェイクスピア 劇や、 遠藤周作 の『黄金の国』『罪と罰』『スカパンの悪だくみ』などの舞台で活躍する。
