Sleep Dirt is an album by Frank Zappa, released in January 1979 on his own DiscReet Records label, distributed by Warner Bros. Records. It reached No. 175 on the Billboard 200 album chart in the United States. Zappa's original title for the album was Hot Rats III.

Bruce Lambourne Fowler (born July 10, 1947) [1] is an American trombonist and composer. He played trombone on many Frank Zappa records, as well as with Captain Beefheart and in the Fowler Brothers Band. He composes and arranges music for movies, and has been the composer, orchestrator, or conductor for many popular films.
3 giu 2009 · I was surprised when I read the reviews for “Sleep Dirt” at Ground and Sky. Both Bob Eichler and Gary Niederhoff were effusive with their praise for this recording. “Sleep Dirt remains one of Zappa’s better works,” writes Eichler.

19 gen 2024 · Emerging from an aborted sci-fi movie and a scrapped double-album project, the ‘Sleep Dirt’ album offers some rare Frank Zappa treats.
The "Sleep Dirt" LP has Chester Thompson's drums while the 1995 CD has Chad Wackerman's overdubbed drums, but all other issues are the same as the original LP. Other than that, you get Zappa on percussion, George Duke on keys, Bruce Fowler on brass, James "Birdlegs" Youmans on bass, and the excellent Ruth Underwood on percussion.
