Paddy Moloney is the founder and leader of The Chieftains. He grew up in Donnycarney, north Co. Dublin. His love of Irish music came from his parents’ native Co. Laois and the music that surrounded him at home.

Paddy Moloney (Irish: Pádraig Ó Maoldomhnaigh; 1 August 1938 – 12 October 2021) was an Irish musician, composer, and record producer. He co-founded and led the Irish musical group the Chieftains, playing on all of their 44 albums. He was particularly associated with the revival of the uilleann pipes.
The Chieftains 3 is the third album released by the Irish musical group The Chieftains in 1971. The tight formula of the first two albums loosened up on the third album. For the first time there was a mazurka (which on the original vinyl release, on the record itself, was erroneously labelled "Sonny's Maxurka").
