Entering his first world title bout, Hearns had established as one of the most fearsome fighters in boxing.
Unbeaten since 1976, Cuevas was expected by many to dispatch Thomas Hearns much in the manner he dispatched 24 other opponents – quickly and ruthlessly. It was not to be. Five minutes and 39 seconds after the fight began, a new champion was crowned.
