Davenport is the former president of Pepperdine University (1985–2000). Under his leadership, the university experienced significant growth in quality and reputation. He is the cofounder of Common Sense California and the Davenport Institute for Public Engagement and Civic Leadership.
David Davenport (born c. 1950) is an American academic administrator. He served as the president of Pepperdine University from 1985 to 2000.
Whether Davenport realized it or not, he was president-in-training, and few people at Pepperdine were surprised—or disappointed—when the Board of Regents one year later announced its unanimous selection of David Davenport as the sixth president.
