Storia. L'edificio fu costruito nel 1753 per il principe Enrico di Prussia, fratello di Federico il Grande. Nel 1810 vi si insediò la neonata università di Berlino (dal 1828 Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität ), fondata per iniziativa di Wilhelm von Humboldt.

Early history. Similar to the University of Bonn, the University of Berlin was established by King Friedrich Wilhelm III on 16 August 1809, during the period of the Prussian Reform Movement, on the initiative of the liberal Prussian philosopher and linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt.
