The original POSSUM logistic regression equation for mortality overpredicts the overall risk of death by more than twofold and the risk of death for patients at lowest risk (5 per cent or less) by more than sevenfold.
We compared the observed in-hospital mortality with the predicted mortality obtained by a POSSUM calculator. The online calculator records each of the 18 factors, which are weighted to a value of 1, 2, 4 or 8 depending on measured variables.

31 lug 2011 · POSSUM and P-POSSUM appear to be good and valid indices for use in risk prediction of morbidity and mortality respectively (surgical outcome) in the Indian population. Also they are better predictors in high-risk groups than in low risk-groups.
12 lug 2020 · This study explored the safety of surgery in 274 elderly patients admitted to our hospital for hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. The POSSUM and P-POSSUM scoring systems were used to predict the rates of postoperative complications and mortality.
