Nevada is located in the Southwest portion of the State of Missouri. Originally called Nevada City, the community grew out of the municipal organization of Vernon County and was chosen as the county seat in 1855.
Also known as the Weltmer Institute of Suggestive Therapeutics, it was founded in Nevada, Missouri by Sidney Abram Weltmer on February 19, 1897. He had developed his ideas as a young man while purportedly curing himself of tuberculosis , then a disease without a cure.
Vernon County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri. It was built between 1906 and 1908. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. The Romanesque Revival style building is constructed of Carthage stone; its architect was R.G. Kirsch of St. Louis.
