New Atheists, The | Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy. The New Atheists are authors of early twenty-first century books promoting atheism. These authors include Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens.
On a first approximation, the term ‘New Atheism’ can be characterized like so: it is an umbrella term, which has originated in the public discourse of the Western world during the first decade of the twenty-first century, and which has been, and still is, used to describe several social actors and phenomena.
