Lee met his wife, attorney Tonya Lewis Lee, in 1992, and they were married a year later in New York. They have two children. When asked by the BBC whether he believed in God, Lee said: "Yes. I have faith that there is a higher being. All this cannot be an accident."

It follows Omari Maynard and Bruce McIntyre, whose partners died due to childbirth complications, which were preventable, as they fight for justice. The film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2022.
