Amanda is arguably the most popular character in Ugly Betty due to her comical personality. Amanda's character is a combination of Patricia Fernandez and Marcela Valencia, but her appearance is similar to Marcia Villarroel from the Mexican adaptation.
Amanda Tanen (born Amanda Sommers) is a fictional character in the American dramedy series Ugly Betty and spin-off web-series Mode After Hours. She is played by Becki Newton. Like Henry Grubstick, Amanda shares a last name with a real-life member of Ugly Betty's production staff — writer Brian Tanen.

Newton portrayed Amanda Tanen in the ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010. With her co-star Michael Urie, Newton co-hosted the official Ugly Betty podcast. She also starred in ABC.com's web series Mode After Hours opposite Urie. Ugly Betty was cancelled in 2010 after four seasons.
After appearing in dozens of national commercials and guest starring roles, including Cold Case (2003), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999), and American Dreams (2002), she landed the role of Amanda on Ugly Betty (2006).
