  1. 21 feb 2013 · On one level, I think Salo is brilliant. I think it's visually stunning. As far as satire is concerned, it's perfect and let's face it, does not pull a single goddamned punch anywhere in it's run time. The choice of using a near scene-for-scene lifting of The 120 Days of Sodom was a good choice for showing the excesses of the rich.

  2. 15 ago 2021 · There's a whole universe of great content out there that isn't and will probably never be available on streaming platforms so why not take advantage of the opportunity to watch it on physical media. I watched this film about five years ago on DVD. I rented it from DVD.Com, Netflix's disc rental service. 13.

  3. In Salo, they don't — the antagonists degrade their captives, their families, and themselves equally. The saying is “absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Salo shows us absolute corruption, but it doesn’t have much else to say other than absolute corruption is horrific. That doesn’t make it a bad movie, necessarily.

  4. If not most disturbing, it's definitely in the top 3. The cinematography is so good though. The guy who made it is one of the most renowned Italian filmmakers ever. From Wikipedia (about the book): "Sade wrote The 120 Days of Sodom in the space of thirty-seven days in 1785 while he was imprisoned in the Bastille.

  5. Salò (120 Days in Sodom) [1975] [English Subtitles] Mordum, Cannibal Holocaust, Flower of Flesh and Blood, Begotten.. I've sat through all of those movies without flinching and I still can't make it through Salo. Great, classic, and controversial film about the corrupting influence of absolute power. They showed us this film in photography ...

  6. 17 lug 2020 · It's so cold and matter of fact. A Serbian Film is just a stylish thriller with moments of ridiculous violence. Both are definitely worth watching, but Saló is easily the better film and also much more disturbing. Serbian Film is definitely worth a one time watch if you can handle the topics the film delves into.

  7. Taboo and symbolism for the extremity of war era & post-war political authoritarianism & corruption. Salò is quite popular among many subversive filmmakers, it is one of the favourite films of Gaspar Noe, Breillat, Haneke and many others, below I linked their takes on the film. Below comments by Haneke.

  8. 18 giu 2018 · This movie didn't do either of those things. I guess if you were led to believe it was a horror film, it might be disappointing. I mean pretty much everyone considers it part of this genre. That's why it's talked about on this subreddit. It certainly was not presented to me in this fashion.

  9. 25 apr 2019 · Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom. I saw this Italian movie last night, and I was very fascinated with the gruesomeness of the film. This movie involved many terrifying scenes which captivated my attention profoundly. This movie might be difficult to get through for some people, but it wasn’t as bad a A Serbian Film or Cannibal Holocaust.

  10. 3 nov 2021 · Salo and cannibal Holocaust are worth watching if nothing else for the film history aspect of it. A Serbian Film is just …gawd it’s awful. If ever there was a case for censoring a movie A Serbian Film makes a pretty decent one. It’s reprehensible with almost no redeeming value.
