Bergen katedralskole (populært kalt Katten, også kalt Schola Cathedralis Bergensis) er en fylkeskommunal videregående skole i Bergen sentrum. Skolen ble grunnlagt av den katolske kirke (kardinal Breakspeare, senere pave Hadrian IV) i 1152/53, da formålet var å utdanne vordende prester.
Bergen Katedralskole has a relaxed atmosphere in which you can get to know other students easily and do enjoyable and meaningful activities. We have a diverse student community that is comprised of both international and Norwegian students, which will give you the best of both worlds.
The cathedral school of Trondheim, founded in 1152, is the oldest school in Norway. Today, the Katedralskole serves as secondary school. Cathedral schools began in the Early Middle Ages as centers of advanced education, some of them ultimately evolving into medieval universities. [ 1 ] .
Here you can read more about the subjects that we offer in each of the groups. Students in the Diploma Programme need to have one subject from each of the first five groups, plus one from group six, or an additional subject from group three or four. Three subjects are studied at Higher level and three at standard.
As far back as the 13th century, when Bergen Cathedral School was founded, the school offered different types of organised music education for shorter or longer periods. This was linked to specific needs, such as the training of singers for Bergen Cathedral.
