The New Palace (German: Neues Palais) is a palace situated on the western side of the Sanssouci park in Potsdam, Germany. The building was begun in 1763, after the end of the Seven Years' War, under King Friedrich II (Frederick the Great) and was completed in 1769. It is considered to be the last great Prussian Baroque palace.
The Neues Palais belongs to the UNESCO world heritage site known as the Parks and Palaces of Potsdam and Berlin. The cultural landscape in Potsdam and the south of Berlin is an assembly of incomparable beauty and harmony – no wonder that they call it Prussia’s Arcadia.
The New Palace was the last palace built by Frederik the Great in this park. It's opulence and grandeur served as a clear reminder of the continuing power of the Prussian state after years of deprivation caused by the Seven Years' War (1756-63).
