Ernst Johann, Reichsgraf von Biron was a German adventurer who became Duke of Courland and chief adviser to the Russian empress Anna (reigned 1730–40); he exercised extraordinary influence over Russian affairs during a period that became known as Bironovshchina.

20 set 2020 · Ernst-Johann Karl Oskar Eitel-Friedrich Peter Burchard, Prince Biron von Courland (born 6 August 1940) is the senior male-line descendant of Ernst Johann von Biron, and as such heir to the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia.
Nel 1737 Ernst Johann Biron fu eletto per succedere al defunto duca Ferdinando di Curlandia e Semigallia. Poiché la Curlandia era uno stato vassallo polacco, fu richiesta la conferma della nomina da parte del re polacco, che fu fatta dal re Augusto III poco dopo.
