He taught for much of his career at Downing College, Cambridge, and later at the University of York. Leavis ranked among the most prominent English-language critics in the 1950s and 1960s. [1]
F.R. Leavis was an English literary critic who championed seriousness and moral depth in literature and criticized what he considered the amateur belletrism of his time. Leavis attended Cambridge University and then served throughout World War I as an ambulance bearer on the Western Front.
