We have a unique history in Croydon thanks to the legacy of our Founder, Archbishop John Whitgift. In 1596 he laid the first two foundation stones of the Hospital of The Holy Trinity. In the same year, just yards down the road, he opened a school.
The John Whitgift Foundation provides the vast majority of our bursary support, amounting to over 10% of our total fee income each year. However, we have more students applying than this fund can support, so Trinity has grown its own dedicated bursary fund ( The Trinity Bursary Fund ) which increases the number of awards we can make each year.

Whitgift Grammar School moved from North End to new buildings in Haling Park, South Croydon, and reverted to its earlier name of Whitgift School. Whitgift Middle School moved into the school building in North End. It was renamed Trinity School of John Whitgift in 1954.
