William of Celje (German: Wilhelm von Cilli, Slovene: Viljem Celjski; c. 1361 – 19 August 1392), also William of Cilli, Count of Celje, was a Styrian nobleman who was married to Anna of Poland, daughter of the Polish king Casimir the Great.

CELJSKI ( von Cilli, Cillei ), plemiška rodbina. Za prednika Žovneških, kasnejših grofov Celjskih, velja Gebhard (I.) de Sovne, prvič omenjen 1123–30. Prvotno se je imenoval po Savinjski dolini, 1139 in 1154 (skupaj z istoimenskim sinom) po »novem gradu« ( de Nivvenburch, de Castro Nouo ).

Vstali kot vazali habsburških vojvod Štajerske v začetku 14. stoletja, so od leta 1341 vladali grofiji Celje kot neposredni grofje (Reichsgrafen), leta 1436 pa so se povzpeli v kneze Svetega rimskega cesarstva.

The Counts of Celje had the most powerful dynasty in Slovenia in the 14th and 15th centuries and their seat of power was this brooding castle just south of the modern city. The hilltop enclosure took shape in the 1330s and kept an entire town inside its outer ward, making it Slovenia’s largest fortification at the time.
22 ago 2023 · Celje is the 3rd largest town in Slovenia after Ljubljana and Maribor. It is the Styria region ‘s center. It is located at the confluence of 4 rivers, hence its strategic importance. It has a long and rich history and a fantastic atmosphere. It is one of my favorite cities in Slovenia.
