7 ott 2024 · John Knox was the foremost leader of the Scottish Reformation, who set the austere moral tone of the Church of Scotland and shaped the democratic form of government it adopted. He was influenced by George Wishart, who was burned for heresy in 1546, and the following year Knox became the spokesman.
John Knox (c. 1514 – 24 November 1572) was a Scottish minister, Reformed theologian, and writer who was a leader of the country's Reformation. He was the founder of the Church of Scotland. Born in Giffordgate, a street in Haddington, East Lothian, Knox is believed to have been educated at the University of St Andrews and worked as a notary-priest.

Biography of John Knox. John Knox, a preacher and historian of the Scottish Reformation, was born into a peasant family in Haddington, Scotland. The exact date of his birth is uncertain, with arguments for three different dates - 1505, 1513, and 1515.
