Storia. Güstrow fu menzionata per la prima volta nel 1228. Sembra che sia stata fondata da un nipote di Enrico il Leone. Divenne residenza estiva dei duchi del Meclemburgo nel XIV secolo. Dopo la divisione del Meclemburgo nel 1621, fu capitale del piccolo ducato di Meclemburgo-Güstrow.

Güstrow, city, Mecklenburg–West Pomerania Land (state), northern Germany. It lies along the canalized Nebel River south of Rostock. Developing out of an early settlement near an ancient Wendish fortress, the town was a significant agricultural market and commercial centre by the time it was.

Güstrow was a residence of the lords of Werle from 1229 until 1436. In 1441 the first privileged shooting society of Güstrow was founded. The host desecration -trial of 1330 ended with the burning of 23 Jews and the destruction of the synagogue.
