  4. Vasilije Petrović ( Serbian Cyrillic: Василије Петровић; 1709 – 10 March 1766) was the metropolitan bishop of Cetinje ( Prince-Bishop of Montenegro ), ruling with Sava Petrović, his cousin. He was author of the History of Montenegro, published in 1754.

  5. In early February 1768, Prince-Bishop Sava received word from the Russian ambassador to Constantinople that Šćepan was an impostor. Armed with the letter, Sava attempted to convince the people of the truth, but the Montenegrins preferred the hopeful rumour to the more distressing reality.

  6. However, after the death of Sava (1781), the Montenegrin chiefs chose archimandrite Petar Petrović, who was a nephew of Metropolitan Vasilije, as successor. Petar I assumed the leadership of Montenegro at a very young age and during most difficult times.
