In the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany during the Second World War, the rank of Generalfeldmarschall remained the highest military rank until July 1940, when Hermann Göring was promoted to the newly created higher rank of Reichsmarschall. The equivalent of a Generalfeldmarschall in the navy was Großadmiral ("grand admiral").

Reichsmarschall ( German: Reichsmarschall des Großdeutschen Reiches; lit. ' Reich Marshal of the Greater German Reich') was a rank and the highest military office in the Wehrmacht specially created for Hermann Göring during World War II. It was senior to the rank of Generalfeldmarschall, which was previously the highest rank in the Wehrmacht. [1] .
Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel (* 15. November 1891 in Heidenheim an der Brenz; † 14. Oktober 1944 in Herrlingen) war ein deutscher Berufsoffizier, ab 1942 im Rang eines Generalfeldmarschalls. Er war bekannt unter seinem Spitznamen Wüstenfuchs .
