John Argyopoulos (Ἰωάννης Ἀργυρόπουλος) was a Greek academic, lecturer, philosopher and humanist, one of the émigré Greek scholars who pioneered the revival of classical Greek learning in Italy at the dawn of the Renaissance.
The name also evolved the variant forms Argyropoulos (Ἀργυρόπουλος) and the feminine Argyropoulina (Ἀργυροπουλίνα). [1] The Argyroi apparently originated in the province of Charsianon , where they had large estates.

John Argyropoulos (born 1415, Constantinople [now Istanbul, Turkey]—died June 26, 1487, Rome, Papal States [Italy]) was a Byzantine humanist and active promoter of the revival of Classical learning in the West. As a teacher in Constantinople, Argyropoulos had among his pupils the scholar Constantine Lascaris.
