Viscount Torrington is a title in the Peerage of Great Britain. History. The Peerage was created in 1721 for the statesman Sir George Byng, 1st Baronet, along with the subsidiary title Baron Byng, of Southill in the County of Bedford, also in the Peerage of Great Britain.

His eldest son, George, received the honor of knighthood from Queen Anne, for his gallant behaviour in the battle off Malaga; and after performing many other signal services, he was raised to the dignity of the peerage by the title of Baron Byng of Southill, co. Bedford, and Viscount Torrington, of Torrington, in Devonshire.
11 giu 2018 · Byng, George, 1st Viscount Torrington (1664–1733). Byng entered the navy at 14 from a family in straitened circumstances. In 1688, while serving as a lieutenant in Dartmouth's fleet, he acted as intermediary with William of Orange and was rewarded with his own command.
