Halle ist eines der drei Oberzentren des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt, ist ein bedeutender Verkehrsknotenpunkt sowie ein wichtiges Wissenschafts- und Wirtschaftszentrum in den ostdeutschen Bundesländern. Die Stadt liegt im so genannten Chemiedreieck zwischen Schkopau und Bitterfeld-Wolfen. Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung datiert auf das Jahr 806. [7] .
