10 ott 2020 · Overview. Throughout the eighteenth century, the basic components of men’s and women’s dress remained the same and, until the last quarter of the century, French fashion with its emphasis on formality and opulence continued to set the standard throughout Europe.
Fashion in the period 1700–1750 in European and European-influenced countries is characterized by a widening silhouette for both men and women following the tall, narrow look of the 1680s and 90s. This era is defined as late Baroque/Rococo style.

The exhibition featured designs by Worth, Drécoll, Cristobal Balenciaga, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Gianni Versace, Vivienne Westwood, all mounted up to show the continuity of a century whose grandiosity still holds its fascination over fashion.
