Nancy Freeman-Mitford CBE (28 November 1904 – 30 June 1973) was an English novelist, biographer, and journalist. The eldest of the Mitford sisters , she was regarded as one of the " bright young things " on the London social scene in the inter-war period .

Nancy Mitford was born on 28 November 1904 in London, the eldest of the six legendary Mitford sisters. Their father, Lord Redesdale, a countryman at heart, worked in London at the office of The Lady until 1914.
