Hermann II was born around 1342 to Louis the Junker and Elizabeth of Sponheim, daughter of Simon II, Count of Sponheim-Kreuznach. Louis the Junker was a son of Otto I, Landgrave of Hesse.

    Hermann II died 10 June 1413 according to most sources accessed; the Wikipedia articles states he died 24 May 1413 but there are no references cited and it is difficult to judge whether this is a mistake or a valid alternate date. He was buried at St Elisabethkirche, Marburg.
