Portugal ( Portuguese pronunciation: [puɾtuˈɣal] ), officially the Portuguese Republic ( Portuguese: República Portuguesa [ʁɛˈpuβlikɐ puɾtuˈɣezɐ] ), [note 4] is a country located on the Iberian Peninsula, in southwestern Europe, and whose territory also includes the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira.
