Il grado di Generaloberst, tradotto come colonnello generale, è stato un grado militare dell'esercito tedesco e dell'esercito austro-ungarico. Il grado era equiparabile a quello di generale dell'Esercito di molti stati.
Generaloberst war die Bezeichnung des höchsten regulär erreichbaren Generalsranges zuerst in der Preußischen Armee. Eingeführt wurde er 1854 für Prinz Wilhelm von Preußen, weil Mitglieder des Königshauses traditionell nicht zum Generalfeldmarschall ernannt wurden.

In the Austro-Hungarian Army, the second-highest rank was colonel general (German: Generaloberst, Hungarian: vezérezredes). The rank was introduced in 1915, following the German model. The rank was not used after World War I in the Austrian Army of the Republic.
