The Élysée Palace (French: Palais de l'Élysée, pronounced [palɛ də lelize]), or simply the Élysée, is the official residence of the President of the French Republic in Paris. Completed in 1722, it was built for nobleman and army officer Louis Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, who had been appointed Governor of Île-de-France in 1719.

The grandest of the private mansions near the Avenue was the Élysée Palace, a private residence of the nobility which during the Third French Republic became the official residence of the Presidents of France.
After the Franco-Prussian war, during the Third Republic the Élysée Palace became the official residence of the Head of State, a status that led to major renovations. A huge ceremonial room was inaugurated at the 1889 World Expo.
