The Academy of Foreign Intelligence (alternatively known as the SVR Academy, previously known as the Yuri Andropov Red Banner Institute and the Red Banner Institute) is one of the primary espionage academies of Russia, and previously the Soviet Union, serving the KGB and its successor organization, the Foreign Intelligence Service.

Graduates are recruited into the Foreign Intelligence Academy. Primakov visited the Foreign Intelligence Academy several times and was instrumental in its educational reforms introduced in 1994. The SVR recruits young men between 22 and 35 with higher education and physically healthy.

The history of the Institute goes back to the purges of the late 1930s when the Soviet leadership, suspicious of the extensive foreign penetration of the existing intelligence apparatus, decided to set up a completely new educational institution for foreign intelligence professionals.
