Flight Director Gene Kranz in Apollo 13 is quintessential Ed Harris in my opinion. When the successfully make re-entry into Earth's Atmosphere, the celebration and relief is so palpable. Gary Sinise's little fist pump and Harris' subtle wipe of his eye is great. Harris as John Glenn in the Right Stuff as well.
I can and do hate Ed Harris personally. When i worked at Starbucks, this fucko waltzes into our Wed morning rush as if no one else is there. Comes right up to the front of the line, interrupts me and proceeds to tell me his order. My response? “The line ends all the way back there, sir.” As if he was just another dude.
Ed Harris in The Rock is one of my favorite performances ever, regardless of genre. I’ve been fascinated by it since I was 12 in ‘96 and I’m still struck by it. Connery and Cage are fun as hell in the movie but they’re also clearly playing relatively comic, unserious characters, typical of the tone of a Michael Bay film.
