Robert Emmett (or Emmet) Rodes (March 29, 1829 – September 19, 1864) was a Confederate general in the American Civil War, and the first of Robert E. Lee's divisional commanders not trained at West Point.

9 giu 2020 · Confederate Major General Robert E. Rodes. After graduating from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 1848, Robert E. Rodes accepted a position at the same school as an assistant professor until 1851. He then pursued a profession as civil engineer.
Major General Robert Rodes, as well as three of his five brigade commanders at the Battle of Gettysburg, did not survive the American Civil War. The attack of Rodes’ brigade on July 1 is of great interest for it is the only time the entire brigade was engaged during the three-day battle.
As the Union XIX and VI Corps advanced on the Berryville Pike toward Winchester on September 19, a gap opened in the Union line. Early hoped to exploit the breach, and ordered a counterattack. As the assault surged forward, a Union artillery fragment struck Rodes in the head, killing him.
