Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg ( Gotha, 30 January 1745 – Gotha, 20 April 1804) was the reigning Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg from 1772 to 1804. He was the third but second surviving son of Frederick III, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Luise Dorothea of Saxe-Meiningen.

Coburg, June 21, 1818 - d. Reinhardsbrunn, August 22, 1893) was the second sovereign duke of the German duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . He was the eldest son of en:Ernst I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and en:Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. He was also the older brother of Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria.
