Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic, is a country in Southeast Europe. It is situated on the southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula, and is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Greece shares land borders with Albania to the northwest, North Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the northeast.

Ancient Greece refers to a period of Greek history that lasted from the Greek Dark Ages ( c. 1050 – c. 750 BC) to the end of antiquity ( c. 600 AD ). In common usage, it can refer to all Greek history before—or including—the Roman Empire, but historians tend use the term more precisely.
