  2. American military officer and explorer Zebulon Pike was buried in Sackets Harbor after his death in combat at the Battle of York in 1813. His remains were interred with honors at the military cemetery on Dodge Avenue. A namesake warship, USS General Pike, was built and launched at Sackets Harbor before the end of that year.

  3. The iron fence, which once belonged to the Buckingham Palace, was taken to Madison Barracks and placed around the military cemetery. Today, the military cemetery located on Dodge Avenue, is the home of this historic fence. The post was expanded between 1892 and 1895 to its present day 115 acres.
