  4. Of course Cyd Charisse, a former dancer with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, was the better dancer, but unless she was dancing, she was leaden, a problem Ginger Rogers NEVER had. It's also worth nothing that Astaire and Rogers danced together on film for the first time in 1933.

Of course you can see why it was popular with the public and Hollywood — it managed to be a randy, sexy (actively advocating healthy sexual appetites for young women and men) while always staying in the bounds of the censorship rules of the time.

Legend has it that Ricardo Montalban saw a photo of Georgiana Young in a magazine, either when he was still in Mexico or when he first came to the US, and declared that one day he would marry her.

  7. 14 mag 2023 · Quite a hit-free score. A strange thing about the movie is that there's no dance duet between Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. Comden and Green wrote (with Previn) what they thought was a great love ballad, with cynical lyrics. Gene decided to do it as a fast number with Cyd, in a costume warehouse, where they try on various costumes.

  9. 18 apr 2019 · Though I wonder, if Cyd Charisse did have a gift for comedy, why they didn't consider giving her the ingenue role (making it a sexier newcomer), and then the Broadway Melody sequence less disconnected from the rest of the film. I don't know much about Charisse, so perhaps other folks who do could venture an opinion.
