Švitrigaila daug kartų puolė Zigmantą ir kartą net pasiekė Vilnių ir Trakus, tačiau vis nieko nelaimėdavo. 1435 m. jis sukvietė visus savo sąjungininkus į didelį žygį. Bet, pasiekus Šventąją, netoli Ukmergės, jam pastojo kelią Zigmanto sūnaus Mykolo vedama lietuvių ir į pagalbą atėjusių lenkų kariuomenė.
Švitrigaila fegyvert fogott a Volhíniát megszállni akaró lengyel-litván csapatok ellen és eközben lengyelellenes szövetséget próbált összehozni. 1431 júniusában megállapodott a lovagrenddel, amely hadat üzent Lengyelországnak és mivel a lengyel hadsereg Volhíniában volt lekötve, különösebb ellenállás nélkül tudott betörni északon.
