2 giorni fa · The establishment of the Roanoke Colony ( / ˈroʊənoʊk / ROH-ə-nohk) was an attempt by Sir Walter Raleigh to found the first permanent English settlement in America. The colony was founded in 1585, but it was visited by a ship in 1590 and the crew found that the colonists had disappeared under unknown circumstances.

15 apr 2024 · In May 1587 White sailed with more than 100 colonists as governor of a second colony that Sir Walter Raleigh attempted to found in North America. The colony was established on Roanoke Island that July, but on August 25, 1587, White returned to England.
18 apr 2024 · William Claiborne (born c. 1587, Westmorland County, Eng.—died c. 1677, Virginia [U.S.]) was an American colonial trader and public official. Claiborne immigrated to Virginia in 1621 as a surveyor for the colony, and in 1626 he was appointed secretary of state for Virginia and a member of the governor’s royal council.
