I was fortunate: My family had a then rare and rather small black and white TV set No need to watch newsreels at the local cinema. Now - 60 years later - I have purchased this DVD copy of A Queen is Crowned and I am as thrilled and impressed as I was watching televion as a kid in

I suppose most of us have known only one Queen: Elisabeth II. She was already on the throne when I was not even born. When she was crowned in 1953 the world was so much different from today's world. The changes have effected as well the monarchy. Then The Queen was rather untouchable and revered, today one asks how long the monarchy will survive.

21 apr 2023 · A Queen Is Crowned - A documentary film written by Christopher Fry. The film documents the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, with a narration of events by Laurence Olivier. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and was the first winner of the now-defunct Golden Globe Award for Best Documentary Film.
The Queen then was crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury using Queen Mary's Crown. Camilla then was presented with the Queen Consort's Sceptre with Cross and the Queen Consort's Rod with Dove (which, unlike other queens consort, she chose not to carry), before sitting on her own throne (originally made for Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1937) beside the King.
